Shadow Art

CREATE A WORK OF ART USING OBJECTS AND A LIGHT SOURCE TO CAST A SHADOW

Do this:
Observe the shadows of objects around you. Use your observations to prepare to make some Shadow Drawings.
  • How can you create interesting shapes and shadows
  • How are the shadows of transparent, translucent, and solid objects different?
  • How does changing the position of an object change the shadow?
  • How does the time of day change shadows created by sunlight?
  • How do different sources of light affect the type of shadow?

Option 1:

In this activity you are going to Learn about the Artist Vincent Bal’s by  Checking out this short video about his work. Then create shadow art similar to his drawings.
What I am looking for.
  • Finished art shows evidence that you LOOKED at the examples first!
  • Objects are unusual and drawings are creative ideas with lots of details.
  • Place an object on a piece of paper. Look at the shadow from many directions. Talk with others about some creative possibilities.
  • Now draw ON the shadow cast on the paper to create your shadow drawing.
  • Take a picture of the object with the shadow and the drawing. Make sure to do this before the shadow changes!
  • Upload the picture to Blackbaud and the group slideshow
